  • Would you like to be a member of a women's service organization whose patriot ancestors made possible our American independence?

  • Perhaps you'd like to join the largest and fastest growing Chapter in the San Diego area?

  • Add to that a heritage of service in historical preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotism, and you have Today’s DAR!

Women eighteen years old and older, who want to play an active role in their communities while making new friends, are today's Daughters. As one member states, "To learn I could become a part of the DAR changed my life. I've made friendships for a lifetime."

Join us! The California DAR has 114 chapters statewide. You are eligible for membership if you can prove lineal descent from a Revolutionary War patriot who aided in achieving American independence. Help is available to document your lineage and to fill out the membership application.

Membership Eligibility

Any woman who is eighteen years of age and older--regardless of race, religion or ethnic background--who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible for membership. She must provide documentation for the birth, marriage, and death for the first three generations, and the remaining generations should be as complete as possible. Exception to these criteria is based on providing other substantial documentation proving lineage between generations.

So, how do you get started?

Fill out the form below with your interest and any information you may have about your patriot. Our registrar will contact you and assist you with filling out the membership application and ensuring all the proper documentation is submitted.

If you think that you have an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence, we can assist you in ascertaining that information. If you already know the name of that ancestor and are not sure of service, we can also assist by searching the DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) which includes the names of Revolutionary War patriots whose service and identity have been established by the NSDAR. We will be able to guide you with research, documentation, and the application process.

Membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is an excellent way to honor and preserve the legacy of your patriot ancestor. When you become a member, you have the opportunity to contribute to your community through service projects in the areas of historic preservation, education, patriotism, and to make life-long friends.
